In this article, they outline the path forward, focusing on Multimodality, Safety and responsibility, and the community.
OpenAI is too cheap to beat: ChatGPT is extremely cheap when compared to its competition. It’s most likely making financial sacrifices to gain market share. “The major LLM providers’ advantage doesn’t just lie in the quality of the model but in their ability to serve models at extreme economies of scale.”
In defense of simple architectures: “Despite the unreasonable effectiveness of simple architectures, most press goes to complex architectures”
Open Source does not win by being cheaper: “Catering to the price-conscious is a losing battle.” The main benefit of open-source software over traditional products is not cheaper pricing, but transparency, extensibility, and improved user experience.
Are you serious?: It’s difficult to find serious people because it’s so easy to fool people into thinking you’re serious. You can only know who’s serious over time and if you are also a serious person.
